The Expressive Creatrix (and Hobbyist)

A new month, another 31 days to feel workout bliss!  I plan to continue my Tracy Anderson Metamorphosis – Hipcentric rotation – in fact that rotation will take me until the end of May to complete.  I’m absolutely loving this program!  For my thoughts (and gushing), please see the March 2, 2011 post at my FBD blog.  (The day number in parantheses behind each date indicates the day I’m on with the Metamorphosis rotation.)

Tuesday, March 1, 2011 (Day 15) – Transform 1, Muscular Structure Sequence 2 (w/up on my own) + Julianne Hough’s Cardio Ballroom (LOVE this workout!), 80 min.

In the evening – 40 min. of hooping.  Not really feeling the love.  PMS-induced hoop funk I think.

Wednesday, March 2, 2011 (Day 16) – Transform 1, Muscular Structure Sequence 2 (w/up on my own) + Tracy Anderson’s Dance Aerobics, songs 1-3 tiwce through, 75 min.  I love Dance Aerobics, but I really need to learn the rest of the 9 songs!  The first three are great, but I need more variety.  I’m struggling with song 4.  I get it during the breakdown, but once I try it with the music, I’m lost!  Maybe I’ll skip that one for now and try to learn another one.  Being able to do this workout straight through (or for at least a half an hour) would be great!

Thursday, March 3, 2011 (Day 17) – Transform 1, Muscular Structure Sequence 2 (w/up on my own) + Leslie’s 3 Fast Miles.  It was nice to have time for 45 min. of cardio. I modified Leslie by using 1# handweights throughout, doing “TA style” arms and adding plyo/dance moves to Leslie’s more basic moves.  Fun stuff.

In the afternoon, I spent 20 min. with my regular hoop, but I wasn’t feeling it.  I’m really off the hooping this week.  Bums me out, but I know the desire and joy will return!

Friday, March 4, 2011 (Day 18) – Transform 1, Muscular Structure Sequence 2 (w/up on my own) +  Ellen Barrett’s Self Magazine Slim & Sleek Fast workout.  The Barrett is one of my faves.  It has a short warm up, a segment of standing ballet-type toning (which raises the heart rate) and then a cardio section with plyo moves that always gets my heart rate up there. Ellen does a short toning segment using 3# weights consisting of some basic lifting moves for the upper body (biceps curls, lateral raises, etc.)  and some traditional standing moves for the lower body (squats, lunges, etc.)   I picked up 3# weights and just did a freestyle thing doing “TA style” arms, and I kept my feet moving to keep the cardio effect going.  She ends with a short stretch.  So, all in all, about 35 min. or so of cardio.  80 min. total.

Saturday, March 5, 2011 – Rest day.

Sunday, March 6, 2011 (Day 19) – Transform 1, Muscular Structure Sequence 2 (w/up on my own and arms and standing abs segments x2) + Tracy Anderson’s Beginner Dance Cardio (all) + stretch on my own, 105 minutes.  (Workout nirvana, baby!)

Monday, March 7, 2011 (Day 20) – Another milestone reached!  Transform 1, Muscular Structure Sequence 2 Day 10 in the books!  I did a warm up on my own and following that I did Leslie’s Punch Up Your Walk, 3 out of the 4 miles, modifying it “TA style” and then stretching on my own.  A great 90-minute session.  I like doing more than 30 min. of cardio when I can.  Today was my last day with this muscular structure sequence, and I really brought it.  I felt strong and easily kept up with Tracy.  No breaks.  It felt awesome!  A bit later I previewed/did the two arms segments (unweighted and weighted) and standing abs segements from sequence 3.  Wow!  I really love it!  TA moves fast, but the moves are do-able.  I think I’m going to be able to completely keep up with TA after only another time or two with this one.  The learning curve isn’t going to be as big as it was with sequence 2.  Experiencing complete bliss with Meta!

In the afternoon I spent 45 min. with the regular hoop and 15 min. doing the breakdown and performance sections of “Don’t Cha'” from the Pussycat Dolls workout.  So much fun!

Tuesday, March 8, 2011 (Day 21) -Transform 1, Muscular Structure Sequence 3, Day 1 – Whoa!  Holy butt cheeks!  That’s one tough lower body workout with the lower body focus definitely on the glutes and hams (although I could feel a fair amount of inner thigh and hip work as well).  If this doesn’t lift my ass, nothing will!  Tough stuff.  This is the first time I’ve actually sweated during a MS sequence.  I’m not much of a sweat-er during toning work, but this one had me definitely sweating and got my heart rate up too – and I was certainly wasn’t even  keeping up with Tracy!  The angles are really different on this one (Tracy’s unique moves really amaze me), and it took me awhile during each exercise to make sure I was doing it correctly.  I am going to have a tremendous sense of accomplishment (not to mention a perky butt!) if I can get proficient with this one by the time I’m done with the sequence.  I love the arms segments and the standing abs, and I really like the floor abs.  I was “eh” on the floor abs in the other two MS seqeuences on Transform 1, but this one, I think I’m going to enjoy.  No cardio today.  I was a bit short on time, and my neck has been really tight and sore, so I did the short 10-min. neck/shoulder segment from Yoga In The Garden of Serenity instead.  All in all, with the quick full body stretch I did on my own, 55 min. total.

Wednesday, March 9, 2011 (Day 22) – Transform 1, Muscular Structure Sequence 3, Day 2.  Warm up on my own, then MS work followed by the YouTube cardio workout, Punch Cardio (4x through).  75 min. total.  A bit later on in the morning I did three Sage Yoga Podcasts (Shoulder Stretches, Standing Stretches and IT Band Express), 25 min.

Thursday, March 10, 2011 (Day 23) – Transform 1, Muscular Structure Sequence 3, Day 3.  Warm up on my own, then MS work, and Ellen Barrett’s Fat-Burning Fusion for cardio, 80 min.

Friday, March 11, 2011 – Scheduled rest day.  Usually Saturday is my rest day, but I’m on a short trip to Arizona, and today, I’m TIRED!

Saturday, March 12, 2011 (Day 24) – Transform 1, Muscular Structure Sequence 3, Day 4.  Warm up on my own, MS work and then 20 min. of Rockin’ Body: Disco Groove, 50 min. total.  (The cardio workout got cut short because my niece fired up the spin bike next to wear I was working out (poolside – cool!), and I couldn’t hear my video anymore.  LOL!

Sunday, March 13, 2011 (Day 25) – Transform 1, Muscular Structure Sequence 3, Day 5.  Warm up on my own, MS work and then Leslie’s 4 Fast Miles (modifying up by doing it “TA Style) + Sage Yoga Podcast: Standing Hip Openers and some stretching on my own, 95 min.

Monday, March 14, 2011 – An unplanned rest day.  We traveled home from Arizona today, and I didn’t have time to get my workout in before we had to be to the airport at 5:45 a.m.  When I arrived home, I was just too exhausted!  I will use this in place of my regularly-scheduled rest day this coming Saturday.  That means I’ll have 11 workout days in a row before my next rest.  Hopefully I can make it. If not, I’ll take another break as needed.

Tuesday, March 15, 2011 (Day 26) – Transform 1, Muscular Structure Sequence 3, Day 6.  Warm up on my own, MS work and then the cardio from TA’s Boot Camp (Sequence 1, Sequence 2 and then Sequence 1 again), plus a stretch on my own, 80 min.

Wednesday, March 16, 2011 (Day 27)  – Transform 1, Muscular Structure Sequence 3, Day 7.  Warm up on my own, MS work  + Zumba: 20-Minute Express, 55 min.

Thursday, March 17, 2011 (Day 28) – Transform 1, Muscular Structure Sequence 3, Day 8.  Warm up on my own, MS work + Meta Cardio (20 min.) + stretch, 70 min.

Friday, March 18, 2011 (Day 29) – Transform 1, Muscular Structure Sequence 3, Day 9.  Warm up on my own, MS work + Julianne Hough’s Just Dance (w/up, dances 1 and 3 + cool down/stretch), 70 min.  I struggled a bit with the choreography (it’s my first time with this one), so this evening I spent another 35 min. with it working on dances 1 and 2, and I did the cool down/stretch.  Glad I tried it again.  It went much better the second time.

Saturday, March 19, 2011 (Day 30) – Today is usually my rest day from Meta, but since I took an extra rest day last Monday due to traveling, I’m going to power through!  Transform 1, Muscular Structure Sequence 3, Day 30.  Warm up on my own, MS work + both walks on Leslie’s Walk Off Even More Weight (4 miles total) using handweights (3#) when Leslie did and modifying up by doing TA-style arms, abs and dance moves, 110 min.

Finished with Muscular Structure Sequence 3, so I’m one-third of the way through.  Another milestone!  Feeling great!

Sunday, March 20, 2011 (Day 31) – [Note:  for simplicity, instead of listing which transform disc I’m on and which sequence, I’m just going to refer to the level I’m on.  I’ve moved on to Transform 2, Muscular Structure Sequence 3, but will call it “Level 4.” ]  Metamorphosis Level 4.  Warm up on my own, MS work (arms and standing abs x2) + Just Dance (all), 90 min.

I LOVE Level 4.  It seems a bit easier than level 3, but I noticed I was really sweating today while doing it, and really huffing and puffing.  Good stuff!  TA is back to more outer hip and thigh work here with less of the focus on glutes that was in Level 3.  I LOVE how she changes this stuff up!  Genius!

Monday, March 21, 2011 (Day 32) – Metamorphosis Level 4.  Warm up on my own, MS work + Leslie’s 3-Mile Weight Loss Walk (using 3# handweights when Leslie did and modifying up by doing it mostly TA style), 90 min.

In the evening, I spent 25 min. learning dances 6, 7, 8 and 9 from TA’s Dance Aerobics.

Tuesday, March 22, 2011 (Day 33) – Metamorphosis Level 4.  Warm up on my own, MS work + dances 6, 7, 8, 1 and 2 from Dance Aerobics.  The cardio was only 22 min. long, but that’s all I could take!  I need to build up to 30 min. straight of TA’s cardio!  With stretch on my own, 70 min. total.

Whew! I was sore when I woke up this morning – back of the legs, glutes, especially the outer hip and thigh.  Good stuff!  I figured I’d have to dog it a bit during the MS work because I was sore, but surprisingly, I hung with TA the entire time! I only took a short break after exercises 3 and 4 on both legs, and a bit longer break in between sides.  Woo hoo!  I also notice that I am very tired and feeling a bit fatigued today.  I think it’s been a pattern than with every sequence, I feel sore, tired and fatigued around days 3 and 4.  By day 5 or 6 I’m feeling really great again. Proof to me that there is a method to Tracy’s delicious madness!  My body IS changing!!

Wednesday, March 23, 2011 (Day 34) – Metamorphosis Level 4.  Warm up on my own, MS work + Dance & Be Fit: Hip Hop Cardio (warm up, Old School, and cool down/stretch) (30), 75 min. total.  Wow!  I completely kept up with Tracy today!  Did every rep right along with her!  I did pause between some of the exercises as my supporting leg and hip tend to tighten up.  I’m totally impressed with myself though!  Sequence 4 is killer, but I can really feel it in my outher hips and thighs.

Thursday, March 24, 2011 (Day 35) – Metamorphosis Level 4.  Warm up on my own, MS work + Sage Yoga (2 podcasts), 55 min. No cardio this morning.  My right knee was sore (maybe from all the shoveling I did yesterday??), plus I was a bit short on time.  I’ll try to hoop tonight.

Friday, March 25, 2011 (Day 36) – Metamorphosis Level 4.  Warm up on my own, MS work (keeping up with Tracy perfectly now!) + Leslie’s 3-Mile Super Walk (45), 84 min.

Yeah, I can keep up with Tracy for every rep of every exercise! I  do have to sometimes pause between exercises though.  Tracy’s a machine!  I tried a new Leslie today.  It’s one from the recent QVC kit.  I liked it.   It uses Leslie’s “cables” during the second mile, and I thought they may for an interesting addition to the standard Leslie walk.  I modified the entire workout up by doing most of it “TA style,” even the mile that used the cables.  I did standing abs during Leslie’s cool down.  Good stuff!  I had a side ache from 5 min. of non-stop torso movements.  Awesome!  It was a great 45 min. of cardio combined with some toning work.  Aaahh. Happy weekend!

Saturday, March 26, 2011 – It was a rest day from the Meta MS work, but I did do some TA!  I spent 30 min. practicing and then 30 min. of performance of some of the dances from Tracy Anderson’s Dance Aerobics (love that one!), which I followed with 15 min. of stretching on my own for 75 min. total.

Sunday, March 27, 2011 (Day 37) – Metamorphosis Level 4 + 2 sections from 10 Minute Solution Dance off Fat Fast, 55 min.

Monday, March 28, 2011 (Day 38) – Metamorphosis Level 4 + 2 miles with Leslie (using the cables for the 2nd mile) + stretch, 70 min.

Tuesday, March 29, 2011 (Day 39) – Metamorphosis Level 4 + 1 mile with Leslie (was short on time) + stretch, 60 min.

Wednesday, March 30, 2011 (Day 40) – Woo hoo!  The last day of Level 4, and I’m doing VERY well with it.  Keeping up with Tracy rep for rep with almost no breaks in between the exercises.  Very happy with myself.  This morning I did a longer cardio, Ellen Barrett’s Barefoot Cardio (45 min.) and then in the evening I did the muscular structure work from Metamorphosis Level 4 for a total of 75 min. today.

Thursday, March 31, 2011 (Day 41) – Feeling really bad from the get go this morning.  Tired, achey, stiff, crabby, etc.  I did day 1 of Metamorphosis Level 5, but I wasn’t loving it.  Just not in the mood.  This one’s tough. I  blogged about it  and how I’m feeling in detail today at my Flat Belly blog.  40 min.

Ended the month of March with 2,310 total workout minutes.
